Highly recomend booking a workshop with Vijendra and Yash Chhipa. They are etremely knowledgeable and welcoming and will take you through the whole process to visit each of the 4 parts that make up their community, the woodblock carvers (Pethara), printers (Chippas), the dyers and then the washers. You will also see the 'fields of colour' where the textiles are laid out daily to dry. Back in the workshop they will guide you through the process of printing. I made a scarf using 2 blocks gadh (background) & rekh (outline). There are also datta (filler) blocks and border blocks. So much to learn and enjoy, with a cup of masala chia. Bagru Textiles is easy to get to, located in the village of Bagru (not the textile park). An experience not to be missed if in Jaipur or surrounds.

Another wonderful learning experience at Bagru Textiles 2-day Hand Block Printing Workshop. Bagru is a historical village where textiles are woven, washed and printed by hand in generations old traditions with master skills. Beautiful to photograph! Yash, fun and knowledgeable (also perfect English) showed me around his home village to see blocks hand carved and observe artisans who work in the various stages of hand textile production. At the studio Yash explained and demonstrated natural dyeing techniques such as madder with iron and indigo mud resist. His father, master printer, Vijendra Chhipa, demonstrated block printing technique. I made 3 scarves learning three unique processes. Thank you to Yash’s mother for traditional Indian lunch and chai. A most warm and generous experience. It takes about an hour to get to Bagru from Jaipur. I recommend hiring a driver to take you out and back after the workshop. Prices vary so check a few. This was my second visit. I highly recommend!

We had a fantastic tour of the Bagru Textiles workshops and learned so much about their craft (and had a go at block printing ourselves). It was a fantastic experience. When I got home to the UK I emailed to commission a wood block of my company logo, which they did a superb job with, even taking some video for me to share on socials. All in all an amazing group of craftspeople and a wonderful business :)

We had a wonderful morning at Bagru textiles. We learned so much about the different dyeing and printing processes. It really makes you appreciate the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. We also had the chance to try block printing ourselves. Highly recommend and would come back when we have the chance.
